1. Scope
This policy covers information collected through the Site and information you provide when you communicate with us (for example, via the contact form or email). It does not cover third-party websites, apps, or services that we do not control, even if you reach them through a link on the Site.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the Site, we or our service providers may collect the following categories of information:
- Identifiers and contact data: name, email address, and any other information you type into the Contact form or send to us by email; email address if you sign up through forms on the Site.
- Commercial information: records of your requests or correspondence with us (for example, a message you send about walks or events).
- Internet or network activity: browser type, device type, general geographic region derived from IP address, pages viewed, and similar technical data collected automatically by our hosting provider or similar infrastructure when you load the Site.
- Preferences stored on your device: your cookie-banner choice is stored in your browser using
localStorage(key related to cookie consent), not for cross-site tracking.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information (such as government ID numbers, health data, or precise geolocation) through the Site. Please do not send us medical records or other highly sensitive information through the contact form.
3. Sources of information
- Directly from you when you submit a form, email us, or sign up for updates.
- Automatically when you use the Site (for example, server logs and similar technical data).
- Third parties when you follow a link to an external service (for example, opening our address in Google Maps from the Contact page).
4. How we use information
We use personal information for lawful purposes, including to:
- Respond to your messages and fulfill your requests;
- Send walk schedules, newsletters, or community updates if you have asked to receive them;
- Operate, secure, and improve the Site (for example, troubleshooting, fraud prevention, and analytics that do not involve “selling” or “sharing” as defined below);
- Comply with law, enforce our Terms of Use, and protect rights, safety, and property.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for inferring characteristics, and we do not engage in “profiling” in the sense of CPRA automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects.
5. How we disclose information
We may disclose personal information to:
- Service providers that assist us in hosting the Site, delivering email, or similar functions, subject to contractual obligations to use data only for our purposes;
- Authorities when required by law, legal process, or to protect vital interests;
- Business transfers in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice where required by law.
Third-party services (such as fonts loaded from third-party servers or opening our address in Google Maps) may receive technical data (such as IP address) in accordance with their own privacy policies. We encourage you to read their policies.
6. Retention
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law. As a general guideline, contact and signup information may be retained for up to twenty-four (24) months after your last interaction with us unless you ask us to delete it sooner or we must keep it longer for legal compliance.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children’s privacy (COPPA)
The Site is not directed to children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it promptly.
9. Your U.S. state privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under state law to access, delete, correct, or obtain a copy of certain personal information we hold about you, and to appeal our response if we deny a request. Some laws also give you the right to opt out of the sale of personal information or certain types of sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising. As stated above, we do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as currently operated on this Site.
9.1 California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you may have the following rights, subject to exceptions under law:
- Right to know: what categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected, the sources, purposes, and categories of third parties to whom we disclose information;
- Right to delete: personal information we collected from you, subject to exceptions;
- Right to correct: inaccurate personal information;
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information (we do not collect sensitive categories for inferring characteristics);
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code § 1798.83) allows California residents to request certain information regarding disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes as described in that statute.
To submit a request, contact us using the information on our Contact page. We will verify your request to a reasonable degree depending on the request type. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf where permitted by law; we may require proof of authorization.
9.2 Oregon residents (OCPA)
If you are an Oregon resident and the OCPA applies to our processing of your personal data, you may have rights to confirm processing, access, correct, delete, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of certain processing (including targeted advertising, sale, or profiling in applicable cases). Contact us as described above. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our response and stating that you wish to appeal.
9.3 Other states
Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Montana, and other states with consumer privacy laws may have similar rights. Contact us and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.
10. Nevada residents
Nevada law (NRS 603A) allows Nevada consumers to opt out of the sale of certain personal information. We do not sell covered information as defined in that law. If our practices change, we will provide the notice required by Nevada law.
11. Commercial email (CAN-SPAM Act, United States)
Promotional or newsletter-style email is sent only if you have opted in (for example, by submitting your email through a signup form on the Site). Commercial emails identify the sender, include a valid reply path, and include our postal address above. Each promotional email includes a clear way to opt out. We process opt-out requests within a reasonable time, not to exceed ten (10) business days unless applicable law requires a shorter period. You may still receive one-to-one responses to your contact form or other transactional messages where permitted by law, even if you opt out of marketing emails. We do not send marketing SMS messages unless you separately opt in to text messages where required by applicable law (including the TCPA).
12. Do Not Track
There is no uniform industry standard for how browsers communicate “Do Not Track” signals. We do not respond to such signals in a specialized way beyond the privacy controls described here.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the “Last updated” date above. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice where required by law.
